NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Current Thoughts

Development of our global needs assessment is largely described under the Problem Identification tab and involved recognition that the current model of resident education lacked an early focus on topics of high yield and import. A survey was conducted to confirm resident and faculty agreement with the value in such a change.

A targeted needs assessment across all emergency medicine trainees in the Chicagoland area was then conducted to confirm the perceived need for this style of curriculum, to assess the preferred methods for delivering educational content, and to assess which topics residents felt appropriate to be included in such a curriculum.

Global Needs Assessment: Scout Survey
University of Chicago Faculty and Resident Survey Summary (Spring 2015)
  • Total responses: 23 (34% response rate)
    • Resident responses: 17 (36% response rate)
    • Faculty responses: 6 (29% response rate)
  • 96% agreed or strongly agreed a dedicated intern curriculum added value to residency education

Targeted Needs Assessment: Educational Strategies and Topic Search
Chicago Area Emergency Medicine Residents (six training sites, n = 300, 2015-2016)
