Curriculum Deployment

CURRICULUM DEPLOYMENT

Interested in developing an intern curriculum at your program?

EMFundamentals can help!

While each program has unique resources and needs, we offer the following step-by-step guide for residents and faculty interested in developing an intern curriculum at their institution:

1. Get buy-in from program leadership

The case for implementing an intern curriculum like EMFundamentals is supported by our needs assessment survey of 300 residents across six training sites (51% response rate). This survey showed 80% thought a dedicated intern curriculum would improve resident education, 75% of residents supported dedicated conference time for interns, and 71% of residents desired dedicated asynchronous resources.

If you are interested in a needs assessment of residents at your own site, we would be happy to share our needs assessment survey to serve as a starting point.

We have also disseminated a discussion of this innovation through the ALiEM Idea Series that further explains the rationale for this curriculum.

2. Plan live sessions

- Protect conference time
- Develop a calendar of topics
- Recruit facilitators

3. Promote asynchronous resources

We use weekly email reminders to help learners keep up with asynchronous learning. We believe this is particularly important for residents on off-service rotations that are unable to attend conference. We have seen an increase in resident use of asynchronous resources since implementing weekly email reminders with links to asynchronous content

4. Evaluate

We use a post-curriculum attitudinal survey for Kirkpatrick level one data and a pre/post knowledge quiz for Kirkpatrick level two data. Both of these evaluation tools are also available on request.

Please contact us if you are interested in any of the above tools, to further discuss the logistics of implementation, or if you are interested in collaborating on studying this intervention.
