IMPLEMENTATION

Pilot

The first version of the intern curriculum was piloted in 2013 as weekly one-hour conference break-out sessions primarily based on presentations drafted by curriculum creators. Feedback from the pilot included desire for more interactivity during break-out sessions and concerns that interns on off-service rotations (and therefore unable to attend weekly conference) were missing out on core content provided during these sessions. This feedback contributed to the current flipped-classroom approach and use of an online asynchronous resource for hosting core content.

Launch

Full deployment of the curriculum began in 2015. This iteration of the curriculum included a fully flipped-classroom model with primarily third-party asynchronous resources. Evaluation metrics in this iteration included a post-curriculum attitudinal survey and a pre/post written knowledge assessment.

Future

Work is underway to increase the amount of tailored original content, to standardize the small group experience, and to deploy more robust evaluation techniques including simulation cases.
